About Us

Founded in June of 2021, Burn Out Brass Band is a Queer HONK! band roving the streets and bringing music to the ears of tired Queers and allies. We've got a team of catgirls, bois, butch punks, daddies and xaddies, them fatales, and perhaps even a few cryptids.

Our mission is to celebrate Queer joy and build supportive community all while getting those booties dancing to your favorite gay bar sing-alongs and antifascist anthems!

We are recruiting Queer-aligned musicians, visual artists, and support crew of any skill level.

Prospective members must:

  • Be 21 years old or over.

  • Feel aligned with the word “Queer” and share our values as listed in the membership handbook.

  • Have a skill, whether musical, visual, or supportive, that they wish to include in our performances. While we call ourselves a “brass” band, we are open-minded about instrumentation with the main concerns being mobility and volume. visual or supportive, that they wish to include in our performances.

  • Be willing to work with a diverse group of people with respect and kindness.

  • Be willing to apologize and work to repair relationships when they cause harm.

  • Prior to rehearsals, find a current member willing to take responsibility for introducing them to the band, including discussing safety and accountability expectations (this can be a band member they are already familiar with or they can request someone to fill this role).

  • Be welcomed by the rest of the band without objections (current members may veto anyone they have safety concerns about and should let other folks in the band know as soon as possible about those concerns).

If you are interested in joining, please reach out to us via our contact form.
